It doesn’t seem possible but in just a couple of weeks, my daughter turns 3. With this new year comes an exciting opportunity to start exploring new “big kid” toys. I put a lot of thought into what gifts would be really great for her based on her temperament. This got me thinking… “Hey! I should create an ultimate list of gifts for preschoolers!”
I took it one step further though by making this list customized based on different temperament traits! Now, you can find the absolute perfect gifts for your kids.
I put a lot of thought into the perfect gift choices based on different traits. These are affiliate links, so if you do choose to purchase something through my recommendations, it is like saying thank you for putting a lot of time and effort into compiling this for you. 🙂
So, let’s get right to it!
Here is your ultimate gift list:
If your child is calm…
Fun and cozy blankets make a wonderful gift for children with low energy. These are great additions to any reading corner. This shark tail and mermaid tail are great to snuggle in and are sure to be a big hit!
Books make a great gift for children who prefer low-energy activities. Of course I recommend my book, Silly Leo! Preschoolers will love noticing the cute arctic animals all while learning an important lesson about following your dreams. This is a great time to start enjoying read aloud stories to help develop listening skills. A great first read aloud is My Father’s Dragon. It is also part of a series, which is great for continued fun!
Puzzles are a great quiet time activity. Preschoolers can handle puzzles with a few more pieces than previous chunky puzzle boards. I love this ABC puzzle for the added bonus of learning uppercase letters and this Melissa and Doug safari puzzle is just right for encouraging problem solving!
Preschoolers are little budding artists. Art sets are great for children who prefer low-energy activities. I am obsessed with this Melissa and Doug set because the paint cans are awesome for preventing paint from going everywhere. The Alex Jr Tot Art Start is a perfect craft starter kit with 6 activities for a box full of fun!
If your child is very active…
Active children always need to find ways to get their energy out, whether inside or outside! A bilibo seat is a great option that can be used anywhere! There are so many possibilities for creative play while spinning, standing, crawling and more. A small trampoline is also great as an energy buster…especially on a rainy day!
Ride on toys are always a favorite with kids that have lots of energy. A scooter helps develop coordination and this Radio Flyer is great because it also has a foot break for added safety. A race car is so much fun to bring to the park or even scoot around on inside.
The two items below are my ABSOLUTE favorites for fun inside play to get the wiggles out. The action songs on this cd are so cute and great for moving and dancing. My daughter loves this play exercise weight. This is a unique gift that your child will use over and over. It gives different exercise commands to follow. Seriously… we think this is the greatest thing ever.
If your child is shy…
Tents make for the perfect gift for shy children. It creates a safe place to hide away when needing some alone time. This princess castle is so cute for a reading nook and it comes with a portable bag. This rocket ship is so awesome for letting little imaginations go wild and it comes with a space projector. Sooooo cool!
Dolls are great for children who are shy. They can be used for roll playing to help them develop social skills and they can be very comforting. I love this Melissa & Doug baby because it is realistic (but not creepy). Baby Stella is a big favorite of ours because she is cuddly and there are lots of accessory options you can buy. There is also different choices for the doll, including a boy.
Puppets are so great for encouraging conversations and social/emotional development. I especially love the Melissa & Doug Palace Pals because it appeals to boys and girls. This simple table top puppet theater is a must have for your puppet shows.
Playdough is such a great choice for shy children because it can help realize anxiety and the possibilities are endless for play. This Play-Doh tool set is great for exploring tools and this breakfast set is the perfect addition for kitchen dramatic play.
Many preschoolers are learning to write letters of the alphabet and may enjoy pretending to write or scribble. This is a great time to introduce a special journal. Not only does it help foster a love of writing but it is a great form of self-expression for shy children. I love this alphabet journal. It is full of fun activities. This Rapunzel journal is large enough for little hands to maneuver. It also has special features kids will love, like invisible ink and a magic rock that displays the hidden messages.
If your child is a social butterfly…
Toys that encourage performing are a great choice for social butterflies! This handheld microphone is amazing! You can connect it through Bluetooth and play music from a computer or phone. It also lights up for a great performance affect. My personal favorite for a playdate is a dress up trunk. I love this Disney princess trunk and this superhero set because both are very reasonably priced for what is included!
A paddle ball set is a fun activity for social kids to take outside. This is one specifically great because it comes with both the discs and the palm paddles. Now that preschoolers are more verbal than ever, they’ll love having walkie talkies! There are so many great opportunities with these like hide and seek and outside dramatic play.
One last great gift for a social child is a pass or class to something they love. There are some many choices like the zoo, a museum, sports or another activity. Since your child loves to be out and about, this will be a gift that keeps on giving!
